Epson diaper reset - The best program! Free diaper reset for Epson L100, L200, L800.

One of the requirements for inkjet printer ink is that it must dry as quickly as possible when it hits the paper. In this case, the ink easily dries in the nozzles of the printer’s print head. To clean ink that has dried in the nozzles and to reliably remove air from the internal volumes of the print head when changing the ink tank, printer manufacturers supply their products with various print head cleaning mechanisms.

One of these mechanisms is a pump that pumps out a small portion of ink from the head and drains it into a container in the printer filled with liquid-absorbing material. Over time, both the absorbent material and the container fill with ink pumped out of the head and dumped into them. To prevent the container from overflowing with evacuated ink, the printer has a counter that takes into account the amount of “discarded” ink and prevents the printer from operating when the container is full.

This mechanism - container, absorbent material and counter - is called diaper printer.

When ink discard counter waste ink absorber(or pad - mat) counter reaches the specified value (diaper is full - waste ink absorber full), the printer issues a corresponding warning and refuses to continue printing.

The warning is displayed on the computer monitor to which the printer is connected by the Status Monitor program (Status Monitor), included with the printer software. The message indicates that the reset ink tank is full or that some printer parts have reached the end of their service life and need to be replaced.

The printer itself signals about the diaper with a corresponding light indication.
Many “new” Canon printer models report filling the diaper in series of seven “blinks” of the indicator switching from yellow to green, with a noticeably longer green signal as a series separator.
It looks something like this:
long green - yellow - green - yellow - green - ... - yellow - long green (and so on).

There are SEVEN yellow blinks between long green ones.
Older models in the series have SIX yellow-green blinks.

There is a warning indicator that the diaper is almost full. These are a series of EIGHT pure yellow blinks: long green - yellow - yellow - ... - yellow - long green. You can continue to operate the printer during a warning indication by simply pressing the “Resume” button.

Resetting the diaper in Canon

To restore the printer's functionality, it is necessary not only to replace the absorbent material, but also to reset the primer counter. Resetting the “cocked” diaper counter is carried out from the printer’s service mode by executing the corresponding service function.

Many Canon printers have a built-in reset service. Both entering the service mode and selecting and executing service functions are performed from the printer keyboard. Resetting the diaper on these printers, as a rule, does not cause any difficulties.

Disabling the remaining ink counter in Canon Pixma

If, after refilling a cartridge, the printer complains that there is no ink in the cartridge, don’t worry! In order for the printer to print and not swear, you need to disable the ink level monitoring system in cartridges once and for all - press the flashing button (middle, triangle in a circle) and hold for 10 seconds until the message disappears from the monitor.

But there are a number of Canon printers that do not have a built-in service mode or do not always work correctly - these are i320, i250-355, Pixma iP1000, iP1300/1700, iP1500, iP1200/1600/2200, iP1800, iP2000, iP3000/4000/5000 , iP4200/5200, iP6000/8500; instead you need use the utility program General Tools. It differs for different printer models. Above we grouped them by compatibility.
To perform the service mode functions of these printers, you need a computer with Win98, ME, 2000 or XP OS, a printer driver, a service program and, of course, the printer itself.

Other brands of printers also have diapers, for example, Epson, which also need to be reset using service utilities. In any case, overflowing the counter leads to blocking the printer.

For some new Epson printer models, including the R220, the value of the “diaper” counter, at which it is charged and blocks the operation of the printer, does NOT have a constant value. The value at which the “diaper” will work is selected by the printer itself depending on its operating conditions, and lies within a certain range. From minimal to maximum possible. In this case, the current value is more than two times less than the maximum possible, and the “diaper” counter is already charged. Most likely, the algorithm for selecting the moment of operation is based on the following: the less frequently the printer pumping mechanism is turned on, the higher the value the counter will reach before it is charged. (The ink evaporates from the absorbent mat...)

It is also worth remembering that after 2-3 drops of the absorber, it is necessary to physically replace the gasket due to its wear.

You can always collect diapers (absorbers) at our service center.

Resetting the ink counter (diaper) of waste ink for Epson printers

What is a diaper

All Epson inkjet printers have a special place to dump and temporarily store waste ink. Waste ink is formed as a result of periodic cleaning of the print head nozzles, when some of the ink is recycled. Naturally, special materials are used to dispose of ink - an absorbent sponge. The Epson printer has a special pump that pumps the excess ink from the print head to the absorbent sponge - felt, which was popularly dubbed as - diaper.
As the diaper fills, the printer's internal counter calculates the time until it needs to be replaced. When the counter value reaches a certain value (depending on the intensity of use of the printer), the printer will be blocked in order to replace the diaper. After replacing the diaper, the waste ink counter is reset to zero in a special way and the printer is ready for use again. Replacing diapers at official service centers is a paid service and takes some time. In order not to waste time and money, there are various ways to independently reset the waste ink counter and stop using diapers altogether.

Ways to reset the diaper counter

There are several ways to reset the diaper counter: using the keys on the printer and using special software. The method that suits you depends directly on the printer model.
For example, on Epson printers that do not use chip cartridges and also have “sheet feed” and “replace/clean cartridge” keys, you can reset the diaper counter using a special combination of keystrokes. For some Epson printer models, the diaper is reset when the printer is turned on while the "sheet feed" and "cartridge replacement/cleaning" keys are pressed simultaneously.

Most modern Epson printers do not allow you to reset the waste ink level using a key combination. To do this, you can use the universal service program SSC Service Utility (list of supported models). If for some reason this program did not help you, try using this Resetters program (partially paid) or other programs from the list below.

If you decide not to contact the service center to replace the diaper and deal with replacing it on your own, then after resetting the counter, be sure to install a clean diaper in the printer tray (you can rinse the old diaper with water, dry it and install it back). If you don’t do anything with the diaper, but just reset the counter and calm down, then after a while An unpleasant surprise awaits you - the printer will “leak” with dirty slurry. Often, ink gets onto electronic circuits and the printer fails. There is a way that allows you to completely abandon diapers and never return to this issue again. You can reset the counter as much as you like and forget about the existence of the diaper. We will not describe this method, because... it is commercial. Naturally, you have the opportunity to contact us to reset the counter and optimize the printer to work without a diaper. The service is paid(from 500 rubles and above, depending on the model of the device).

You know about our printer that it is no longer young. I have already reset the diaper a couple of times, and it’s time to perform such a process as replacing the diaper on the epson L110 printer.

First, a short excursion into theory

Do you know what a printer diaper is and what it is needed for? This is what people call a spongy element like felt. And here’s what it looks like on our Epson L110 printer, this is its condition after 3 years of use.

It is designed to absorb ink.

In inkjet printers, ink is supplied to the paper through nozzles, which are very thin, thinner than a hair. And when we rarely print, the ink in these nozzles dries out, thereby clogging the ink supply. In order to clean them from clumps of dried paint, using a pump, paint is supplied under pressure and cleaning occurs. Accordingly, this old paint with clots ends up in our diaper. The less often we use the printer, the more often we have to clean the print head in order to restore print quality. Also, the print head is cleaned every time the device is turned on.

How do you know when the diaper is full and needs to be changed? The manufacturer solved this problem at the software level. The system generates an error about the need to replace the absorbent pad when a certain number of pumpings, specified by the manufacturer, has passed and blocks printing. As a rule, this counter is reset using special service programs. In this case, the program recommends that we contact the service center. We will review these programs for resetting the counter later in the following articles, but for now we will consider solving the problem of dirty diapers.

What to do with a diaper if it gets dirty? It’s better to change it, but if you don’t want it or you can’t buy it, you can extend its life by washing it. To do this, you need to remove the felt elements and place them in warm water.

Domestos will help you wash more efficiently. And be careful when washing, because... paint that gets on clothes is very difficult to wash off. After washing, dry it and install it back. The quality of absorption will deteriorate after these procedures, but it will still last for some time.

There is another way to solve this problem. After some thought, I decided to stick with it. You can drain the waste ink into a separate container. It is clear that manufacturers are interested in selling consumables for their printers, but since they have started making a system for continuous ink supply from the factory, why not make a waste ink outlet? Most likely they will come to this soon, but for now we have to take the modification into our own hands in order to facilitate operation.

As I wrote in the previous article, our printer is not under warranty, because we violated the manufacturer’s recommendations and use pigment inks, so we are disassembling it without fear of losing the warranty. And now in more detail.

Materials and tools:

To carry out the modernization we will need:

  1. IV system
  2. Medical gloves to avoid getting paint on your hands
  3. crosshead screwdriver
  4. The container into which the drain will be discharged, in our case I used an ink container for my printer.
  5. Plastic clamp
  6. Drill with drill number 6

Disassembling the printer.

First, we remove our diaper, it is located at the bottom of the printer, unscrew one screw and carefully remove it, be careful and try not to get dirty.

Put it aside and clean the waste ink nozzle. I used regular napkins.

In order to get to the waste ink drain tube, we need to remove the top cover of the printer. Unscrew the screws securing the cover. It is held on by 7 screws, four on top and 3 on the side from the CISS side, more details in the photo.

There are latches at the bottom and on the side of the CISS; when removing the cover, we bend them.

So we removed the cover.

Modernization

In order to expand the original drain tube, we use elements of the medical system.

The photo shows how the system tube was secured using a clamp.

Using a No. 6 drill, drill a hole on the printer cover body opposite the drain tube.

We reassemble the body in the reverse order, be careful to ensure that the paint supply tubes are not pinched, and that the waste ink removal tube is seated in its seat.

In order for the connection to be strong, we connect using the connecting element of the system itself in an interference fit, as shown in the photo below.

It is also necessary to make a small hole in the lid so that pressure does not form there, otherwise the used ink will not flow into the container and the print heads may fail.

In general, everything is ready. However, I also additionally attached the container to the ink block body with double-sided tape.

Thank you for your attention, I hope my experience will help you upgrade your Epson L110 printer. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer in the comments. Bye bye.

Laser and inkjet printers do not have built-in hardware to determine the amount of ink remaining. Instead, software methods for estimating ink consumption are used. The printer calculates the coverage level of each sheet sent for printing. Based on this parameter, the approximate amount of liquid ink or powder toner used is calculated. The information is recorded on a chip, which is usually located on the cartridge. After refilling most models with toner or ink, it becomes necessary to reset the printer.

During reset, information is erased not on the printer itself, but on the chip. Some refill kits also include a separate microcircuit that is installed in place of the old one, the counter of which has been exceeded. Color models may have several such chips. Each of them stores information about the remaining amount of paint of a certain color. Normal use of the device will be impossible until all chips whose life has been exhausted are reset or replaced.

How to reset a printer of any model

When refilling a cartridge at a service center, the chip is usually reset or replaced by the technician performing the service. It is recommended to check in advance whether this service is included in the cost of refueling. Otherwise, you risk being left with a refilled but non-functional cartridge. If the printer is not reset, to restore the correct operation of the device you will have to contact the technician again or find the instructions yourself.

Standard user manuals usually do not provide information on how to reset the on-chip counter. This is due to the fact that printing equipment manufacturers are not interested in providing such data. Most companies recommend not refilling old consumables, but purchasing new ones. Moreover, their cost in some cases may even exceed the price of a new printer with a set of starter cartridges.

Try finding the service manual for your printer model. This document contains detailed steps, diagrams, and step-by-step troubleshooting instructions. It is not intended for distribution to general users, so there is no such manual on the included disc. The availability of service instructions depends on the device manufacturer. Some companies provide it only to authorized service centers, others publish it for everyone in a separate section of the official website.

However, whatever the manufacturer’s policy regarding the protection of proprietary information, you can find repair manuals for most popular models on thematic forums. When the document is found, open it and go to the chapter that describes refilling and maintaining cartridges. Complete the following steps in the required order to reset the printer. Typically, the device will need to be rebooted after this.

Note! On some printer models, you can reset the counter programmatically using a special utility. Other devices can only be reset in hardware, by manipulating the chip.

How to reset a refillable Epson cartridge

Repeated refilling is the recommended maintenance scenario for Epson cartridges. The chip installed on them is used not in the interests of the manufacturer, complicating the refueling process, but in the interests of the user. Its main purpose is to display information about the current ink level in the tanks. You can reset the chip on printers of different models in different ways:

  1. If the chip does not have a button or two contacts at the top, remove the ink reservoir and insert it back.
  2. If there is a button, press it and hold it for 5-7 seconds.
  3. If there are two separate contacts located next to each other, remove the cartridge and close the contacts with any metal object.

Important tip!

Confirm your intention to reset the printer when a window with a corresponding question appears. The confirmation prompt may appear either on the operating system or on the LCD screen, if available on the device.

Features of resetting a Canon printer

  • Methods to reset the chip on Canon devices are much more varied than on equipment from other manufacturers. The recommended algorithm of actions differs depending on the specific model, while for some devices it is indicated directly in the instructions. The most common methods:
  • Reset the printer by sealing the desired contact on the contact pad of the cartridge.
  • Disable ink level monitoring in device properties.
  • Press and hold the cancel button (usually red) for 10 seconds.

Completely disable two-way communication through hardware properties.

Important! In order to directly reset the information on the chip, you need to use a special device - a programmer.

Types of printers: principles of operation, pros and cons of various types of printing

Each Epson device, be it a printer or an MFP, has a special container with an absorbent filler (storage), which is popularly called a “diaper”. The diaper absorbs excess ink that is formed when printing an image edge-to-edge (without a frame), and it also collects waste ink used when cleaning the print head. Each diaper has its own resource, or rather, the amount of ink that it can absorb. If the printer fills more, the excess ink will start leaking out of the printer. To prevent this from happening, the devices are equipped with sensors that block the operation of the printer and display an error: the printer’s ink-absorbing lining is reaching the end of its service life. In this article we will tell you how to reset the diaper on Epson, and thereby get rid of this error. We will restore the operation of our device, and also tell you how to prevent physical overflow of the container with absorbent filler.

Let's start with the fact that diapers are installed in all Epson printing devices. However, depending on the class of the device and its performance, they differ. So, in large-format devices (Print format A2 and above), the diaper is made in the form of a removable container. It can be easily changed by the user himself within a few minutes. The official names for this consumable may vary: waste ink tank, waste ink container, absorbent tank, or Maintenance Tank. The cost of the container, depending on the plotter model, does not exceed 4000 - 6000 rubles. The lifespan of the diaper, depending on the model, ranges from 10,000 to 35,000 pages, depending on the model of the device. When a diaper overflow error appears, you simply pull out the old one, insert the new one and continue printing. But in household devices everything is a little different.

Selecting a waste ink container (diaper) for Epson plotters.

Typically, in printers and MFPs (up to A3 format inclusive), the diaper is built into the device itself. That is, it turns out that this is not a consumable material, but a spare part. The user cannot change it independently. It is necessary to take the device to a service center, where an engineer will disassemble it and replace the absorbent filler. After which, using special software, it will reset the digital counter error so that the printer starts printing.

The lifespan of the diaper, depending on the device, is from 3000 pages to 5000 pages. Although there are lucky ones whose diaper overflowed for 10,000 - 12,000 prints. The thing is that the less we pump ink in order to clean the print head, the longer the diaper's lifespan. And thus we can print more pages. In addition, if we print images with brims, we will also increase the life of the diaper. However, if you print rarely and your printer sits for a long time without printing, you need to clean the print head, otherwise you risk having to undergo more expensive repairs. In any case, physically replacing the diaper is cheaper than replacing the print head. Typically, the cost of the print head is estimated at half the cost of the device. Therefore, in any case, I recommend cleaning the print head when the picture compares the plotter diaper and a regular printer.

Physical overfilling of the diaper.

As we have already found out, the diaper overflow counter usually gives an error after printing 3000-5000 pages. Then it stops the printer until the error is eliminated and the diaper is physically replaced. The manufacturer, in this case Epson, always plays it safe and makes a container with a large supply of absorbent filler. In some cases, the device can be reset several times. Usually this is 2-3 times. After which the diaper will need to be replaced. If this is not done in time, the ink will begin to flow out of the body. There are several options to get out of the situation:

1) take the device to the Epson service center so that specialists can replace it!
2) replace it yourself or arrange for waste ink to be drained into a special container.

In this article, we will not tell you how to drain waste ink into a special container, but will only say that this process is carried out differently for different Epson devices. But at the same time, the meaning is the same: we attach a drain container to the ink output tube using a silicone cable. In order to get to the waste ink output tube, depending on the model of the device, you must either remove the plug from the back of your device, or unscrew one or more bolts, after which you can pull out the diaper and get to the output tube. In some cases, you will have to get confused and disassemble the case.

Epson diaper reset software.

In most cases, we need two programs that will allow us to reset the diaper overflow error - these are the Adjustment Program and PrintHelp. The first is free and in English, and the second is in Russian and most of the functionality is paid. Personally, I like the Adjustment Program, because in my case this program coped with resetting the absorbent filler overflow error on the L1800 printer (an A3 printer with a proprietary continuous ink supply system) without any problems. And most importantly, I was able to do it for free. But in the PrintHelp program this is already a paid procedure and costs almost 600 rubles for one reset. However, printhelp has its merits. Let's figure out which program is better to use?

As you probably already guessed, the choice of program depends on your Epson machine model. We use Adjustment Program if you have the following model of printer or multifunctional printer.

PrintHelp can be used with almost any Epson machine model for a fee if you use a reset code, and free for some models.

Attention! Resetting the counters on your device is done at your own risk! The author of the article is not responsible for damaged equipment as a result of such a reset! Any manipulations with the printer may void the manufacturer's warranty. Therefore, if the device is under warranty, it is better to contact a service center. If there is no guarantee or you are not afraid of losing it, then you can proceed to reset the Epson diaper according to the instructions below. In fact, in almost 100% of cases there is nothing to be afraid of. However, difficulties may arise with some models. I will show the example of the Epson L1800. In addition, there were no problems when resetting the counters on the T50 printer.

How to reset a diaper on an Epson using the Adjustment Program using the L1800 model as an example?

Download the archive for a suitable Epson model. Unzip and run the program. On the initial screen, click Accept. We turn on our Epson printer or multifunction printer and connect it to the computer if it is not connected.

Select the device model from the table and click Start. I will show the example of the L1800 printer. In the window that opens, select Select. Here we need to select the connection port. To begin with, you can set Auto selection in the port item. Or select the port manually, in my case it is usb003 and click OK.

In the window that opens, first, let's check the meter readings. To do this, check the small boxes next to the numbers 0 and 80, and click Check. If your printer is already locked, then it will show 100% filling in two windows (depending on the model there may be one or several windows, the epson l1800 has two).

Since I already reset the counters, it currently shows:
— the first counter is 9% full out of 100%, having collected 1111 points out of 12476.
— the second counter is not filled at all and shows 0%, having collected 0 points out of 6788.

As you can see, the epson l1800 has two counters. The first (up to 12476 points) is the main printer (diaper) counter. The value of this counter increases when printing, as well as when cleaning and pumping ink. So keep that in mind. The second (up to 6788 points) is an additional counter, which is an absorbent pad under the print head. The counter value increases during borderless printing and some special printing modes.

Now let's reset the counters on the Epson in order to unlock the printer and print on it again. To do this, check the boxes next to the first and second counters and click Initialize. Next, a warning pops up stating that after clicking OK the counter will be reset. Click OK. After the reset, a warning pops up stating that you need to turn off the printer: Please turn off the printer. Turn off the printer using the button on the printer body and press the OK button. Next we receive a warning that we need to reboot or turn on the printer: Please reboot the printer. Turn on our printer and click OK.

We don’t close the program on the computer yet. We were able to reset the waste ink container counters on Epson absolutely free of charge. Now let's check the counters. Check the boxes and click Check. I forgot to say that when checking, it is not necessary to tick the counters. However, when we reset, they need to be set. When checking, the counters are 0 points or 0%. That is, the reset of the diaper counters was successful. The printer is unlocked and now we can continue printing without any restrictions until the next time the counter is triggered.

How to reset a diaper on an Epson using the Printhelp program using the L1800 model as an example?

First you need to download the Printhelp program and then install it. We open the program and turn on our Epson device, it can be either a printer or an MFP. In my example, I show the example of an Epson L1800 format A3 printer. Of course, the printer must be connected to the computer. In the Printhelp program, click the Update printer list button. Our device should be displayed in the upper left corner.

Now click on the Read mining counters button. And we see the results. In my case the counters are not full yet. Only 3.32% full. You can print for a long time without fear of overflow. I just reset it using Adjustment and then did a few head cleanings. In your case, the counters will show 100% filling. In this case, the device is locked and does not print. Now our task is to reset the counters so that the device starts printing. As you remember, the Printhelp program is not entirely free. There are models for which you can do a free reset, but they are few. Basically you need to pay an average of 600 rubles per reset. However, the program allows you to reset the counters once for free using a trial code. In this case, you can reduce the counters from 100% to 90%. If you need to reset completely, you will have to buy a code.

In order to reset the counters, you need to select our device in the upper left corner and click on the Reset working counters button. If your printer is on the list of devices where a free reset is performed, then you will not have to pay. But if the printer is not in this list, a window will pop up asking you to enter a code. If you do not have a code, you must purchase it by clicking on the Buy reset code button. If you do not want to buy a code, you can use a free trial code that will reset the counter from 100% to 90%. When you click buy code, you will be taken to the printhelp website where you will need to purchase the code. You buy and then enter. I will not buy, but will use the free code: trial. Enter this word instead of the code and click OK. After this procedure, the counters will be reset to 90%. In my case this does not happen since the counter level is only 3.32%. After this, you will be able to type a little for a while, but after that you will have to buy the code.

That's all, in this article, using the L1800 printer as an example, we showed how to reset the Epson diaper counter. We hope you found this article very helpful. It's up to you to decide which program to reset the counters with. I like the Adjustment Program better because it's free and not particularly complicated.
