How to scan a page. Scanning a document from a printer to a PC

Many of you, more often or less often, are faced with the need to transfer information (text, graphics, photographs) from paper to a computer. The main assistant in solving this issue is a scanner. This can be either a stand-alone device or an MFP with scanning capabilities.

Preparing to scan from your printer to your computer

In order to begin the scanning process itself, you must have a computer and a scanner (or an MFP with the latter function) at your disposal.

  • Turn on the computer and printer.
  • Connect the MFP (or scanner) to a power source and to your computer.
  • Place the document, book, photograph or other paper medium from which information should be read with its front side on the scanner glass.

This completes the preparatory stage.

Paint program

The presence of this graphic editor will help you carry out the procedure for transferring data to your computer easily and quickly.

  • Launch the Paint program. To do this, click on its shortcut (icon) on the desktop or go to “Start” - “All Programs” - “Accessories” - “Paint”.
  • In the upper left corner of the program that opens, go to the “File” menu or click on the white rectangle with a drop-down list (in the same corner).
  • In the list provided, select “Get image” – “From a scanner or camera” (or “From a scanner or camera”). If this menu item is not active, it means the scanner is not ready for operation (check the connection of the device to the power source and the computer).
  • A window appears on the screen in which you select the required device - your printer, the type of image to be scanned (color or black and white).
  • Afterwards, press the “Scan” button.
  • Ready. Here is a scanned image that you can edit if desired.
  • To save the picture, go to the “File” menu and select “Save As,” indicating the path in the directory where the resulting file will be stored. The most common saving formats are .JPEG and .png.

Using a scanning app

  • Install the necessary drivers for your printer on your computer. To do this, you can use the disk that came with the device, or download them from the Internet.
  • Go to “Start” – “Devices and Printers” (or “Start” – “Control Panel” – “Devices and Printers”).
  • Right-click on your printer icon and select “Start Scan” from the drop-down list.
  • A window opens in which you set scanning parameters: the type of source document, color or black and white image will be received, the resolution of the finished image, in what format the file will be saved.
  • Click the “Scan” button.
  • As a result, a scanned image will appear on the screen, to which you assign a name and indicate the path to place it on your computer.

Image resolution when scanning from printer to computer

Resolution is one of the important parameters of the final image. It is he who determines the detail (clarity) of the picture. For text documents, you should not set excessively high values - this is not necessary, and more time will be spent on the scanning process. And remember that you can reduce the resolution of the resulting image (in a graphics editor), but you cannot increase it; you will need to rescan the document.

A Canon multifunction printer, as a rule, can not only print, but also scan and copy. The Canon company has many models that allow you to scan the necessary documents not only to your computer but also to any other gadget.

If you want to know how to scan with a Canon printer, you first need to install the printer on your computer in order to be able to save the information we have already scanned in the required format and then, if necessary, transfer it to another device. How to turn on the scanner on the printer.
It’s quite easy to scan your documents and photos from the printer to your computer. To do this procedure, all you need is.

1. Install the drivers necessary for your printer to operate. There are two options for installing them: either you can install them from the disk that you bought with the printer, but you can also install them without a disk.
In the first option, if you have a disk on hand, issued at the time of purchase as a kit with the printer, you can safely use it. First, turn off the printer, place the disk in the desired location, and wait a few seconds. When the folder with files opens, find the file there with the extension [.exe] and run it (usually this file is easier to find, it is called Setup.exe). During installation, simply follow the steps with the wizard's prompts, reading everything carefully to avoid mistakes.

2. Place the document on the scanner glass. In the vast majority of cases, you should place the printed side down, but for HP ENVY multifunction printers, it should be placed face up.
3. Turn on the printer and wait 30 seconds until it is detected in the system.

How to scan on a Canon printer, turn on, configure and use the scanner

DPI - resolution or dots per inch. The larger the image, the higher the image quality, the higher its resolution (the number of pixels in length and width) and the more the file will weigh and take up space on your computer’s disk. The higher you set the resolution, the longer the printer will take to process or scan the document.
100-200 dpi - if you need it quickly and you won’t recognize documents.
300-400 dpi - suitable if you need to recognize text.
500-600 dpi - if you need the smallest details of the document.

With a resolution of 600 dpi, the father scans old family photographs that he manages to get his hands on. There you need maximum resolution because the quality of photos from the 20s, 30s, and 40s is “not very good.”
I find it convenient to scan at 300 dpi. The photo quality is good and the text can be recognized if necessary.
There is one more nuance here. You can always reduce the resolution of the scanned file in the same graphic editor Paint. But you won’t be able to increase the resolution. You'll have to scan again.
If you can't find where you saved the scanned document, try looking in the Scanned Documents folder. When you install printer software, it may create a Scanned Documents folder on your computer.
Visit our website to read your printer's manual if you can't find the brochure at home, and instructions on how to use your Canon scanner. Find your printer model on the website and read the Device Review and its Technical Specifications. If you want, you can download the necessary information to your computer.
You can also use other applications on your computer to understand how to scan a document to your computer using a Canon scanner. Try graphic editing programs or Preview on Mac. Select the “Import from scanner” action and then follow the sequence of actions described above.

You will need

  • - scanner;
  • - set of drivers;
  • - photos;
  • - Adobe Photoshop, Abbyy FineReader, XnView or any other program that has a scanning function.

Instructions

Install drivers. They may be on the disk that came with the scanner. Sometimes they need to be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. The last option is most often required when the drivers included with the hardware for some reason do not want to work with your system. Read the scanner instructions and connect it correctly.

Install the necessary software. Most likely, you already have some programs installed. If you have tried to process images, you probably did it through one of the versions of Adobe Photoshop. The Abbyy Fine Reader program is more universal - it allows you to scan both images and texts. XnView is designed primarily for viewing pictures, but it also has a scanning function. To find out if this feature is available, go to the “File” menu. Look for the “scan” line in the drop-down window.

Launch the desired program. In many cases, a window asking you to open a particular program appears immediately after you open the lid. As a rule, such “numbers” are performed by Abbyy Fine Reader. If you do not receive such an offer, go to the “file” menu and select the scan function.

Open the scanner lid and place a photo or several there. They need to be positioned facing the glass. A window should appear on your screen asking you to preview or scan immediately. Select the first one and click the corresponding button. The scanner will start, and soon an image will appear on the small window screen.

Consider whether you will scan all the photos at once and then cut them up, or whether it would be more convenient for you to digitize them one at a time. Depending on this, select one or more. This is done using the mouse in the same way as in any other program. The selection area is limited by a dotted line. The rectangle can be made smaller or larger.

There are several other small windows in the scanner window. They vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but there is always a choice - color or black and white image, resolution, size and style. To scan color photos, select Color Scan. This window may indicate different options; you will have to choose them empirically. If the photo is black and white, it is preferable to select “shades of gray” - then the photo will turn out with all the halftones.

Select resolution. It depends on what you are digitizing your photos for. To get high quality, set the resolution higher. As a rule, the program offers several permissions, but you can set your own.

Once you have set the settings, click the “scan” button and see what happens. If you set the area correctly, you will end up with a photo of the same format as the original one. After the scanner stops, an image will appear on the screen. It can be cropped, expanded and processed just like any other picture. In order to save a photo, go to the “file” menu and find the line “save” or “save as”. Select an extension and give the file a name.

Helpful advice

When scanning photos pasted onto thick album pages, the scanner lid remains raised. Most scanners are designed to accommodate objects of some thickness. Place the hinges that secure the lid almost vertically. Place the album and cover it with a lid. You can put a small weight on it.

It is preferable to scan your system for viruses using a resident antivirus installed on your computer. There are, of course, web services that provide such a service. However, for any of them to work fully, they must have administrator rights in your OS in order to be able to install their active components into it. And sending commands with such broad rights over the network is no less dangerous than becoming the target of a virus attack.

Instructions

The first step to scanning your system should be to use anti-virus protection programs. If it is already on your system, skip this step; if not, select any of the antiviruses available on the Internet. Even if you choose the option, it will most likely have a free trial period of several weeks. This will be quite enough to scan the system for viruses. For example, you can install an antivirus named Avira or Kaspersky, Nod 32, Dr Web, Panda, etc.

When the installation of the antivirus program is complete, double-click the “My Computer” shortcut on your desktop, or press the key combination WIN and E (Russian У). This way you will launch Windows Explorer.

In Explorer, select all the drives on your computer that you want to scan and right-click the selection. The context menu that appears will contain a command to scan for viruses. Each antivirus has it formulated differently, but the meaning is the same. For example, Avira calls this context menu item: “Scan selected files with AntiVir.” Clicking this command will start a disk scan, which will take some time.

The duration of the procedure varies depending on the total capacity of the disks being checked and the amount of information stored on them. During the scanning process, if something suspicious is detected, the antivirus will sound a signal and take the actions specified in its settings. This action may require your confirmation. Upon completion of the operation, the program will present you with a report on the results.

There is another scanning option, without using Windows Explorer. If you double-click the antivirus icon in your desktop tray, its control panel will open. It also has a command to start a system scan. For example, Avira has it on the panel page that opens by default. The date of the last computer scan is indicated here, and next to it is a link “Check system”. Clicking on this label starts the verification procedure.

A scanner is a device that can convert text and images from paper to electronic media. So, you can use a scanner to digitize your photographs, scan the texts of magazines, books for editing in text editors.

Thanks to the scanning process, you can turn various documents into image files, which expands the possibility of further actions. Firstly, these files can be shared using social networks, email, etc. Secondly, they can be sent by fax (using a telephone line for this).

Scanning documents on modern MFPs, so-called “all-in-one” multifunctional devices, is somewhat different from what it was before and this is primarily due to the modernization of the devices themselves.

Basic requirements for scanning a document to a computer with a Samsung MFP

To begin with, we note that such a printer is a multifunctional unit that can perform the functions of both a printer and a scanner. To work with such a device, you will need a special Samsung SmarThru 4 program.

So, the first thing you need to do is install the drivers and the Samsung SmarThru 4 application. This is all on the disk that comes with the printer. If there is no disk, the application and driver should only be downloaded from the Samsung manufacturer's website.

If all this has already been done, then now you need to make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to your PC or laptop. If you have difficulties with this and the PC does not detect this device, you can contact a Samsung printer and MFP repair center.

The process of scanning documents from the Samsung scx 4200, scx 3400 and other models

Open the cover of the device and place our document above the exposure glass. The document must be facing the glass. After closing the lid, activate the program we talked about and click on the image that says “Scan”.

An additional panel is formed near the application window, where the menu offers various scanning options and parameters.

For example, by selecting the “Application” item, the source we scanned will automatically be sent to some program.

By selecting the “E-mail” item, the scanned image will be immediately sent to the email specified in advance.

By selecting the “Folder” section, the scanned files will be saved on your PC or laptop.

The “Recognition” folder involves automatically sending the scanned document to a text recognition program.

Having decided on this point, you will also need to set the color settings of the scanned file and what format it will be in, and then simply press the “scan” button.

There are many different methods and applications for scanning. We recommend using an application from the official manufacturer of your MFP for full operation.

Recently, the cost of peripheral computer devices has been decreasing with each new generation. For example, just recently a person with an average income could only dream of buying a laser printer for a home computer, but now they have to choose between a good inkjet model and a budget laser printer. The price reduction process has not bypassed such seemingly office devices as scanners. Anyone can afford to purchase a model with a CIS matrix.

Finally, after a long search, the scanner was purchased, brought home and removed from the colorful packaging. The first question that arises for the owner is: “How to scan a document?” First of all, we note that scanning is a completely safe process for both the user and the device itself, so it can be repeated as many times as you like without any losses (unlike printers).

Before you need to prepare the device for operation. To do this, you need to perform a series of steps: connect the scanner's power, connect it to the computer, install the driver. The control driver is located on the disk that comes with the device. If it is missing, then you need to find a sticker with the model name on the case and download the program from the developer’s website.

Usually, after preparation, each user has a desire to figure it out, namely a photo (picture) and only then - a document. Open the top cover of the scanner (relevant for popular tablet varieties) and place the image face down on the transparent glass. Usually in the upper right corner (there is a key mark there). By the way, anyone who is looking for how to scan text rather than pictures should remember the rule: any documents are placed in the scanner with the characters down. The scanning mechanism passes under the glass! After placing the sheet (book, photo), close the lid. The less external light that hits the glass during operation, the higher the quality of digitization. Sometimes the question is not how to scan a document from an A4 sheet, but how to digitize information from a large book. In this case, place the sheets of spreads on the scanner glass one by one, and cover the resulting open areas with thick paper.

Next, we launch the program. This could be the driver's user interface or a third-party FineReader from ABBYY. For those for whom it is more important to understand how to scan a document, it is recommended to choose FineReader, as this application has great capabilities. However, it must be downloaded and installed on your computer. The launch is standard: open the “Start” button menu, go to “ABBYY - FineReader” or, if you decide to work directly through the driver, then, for example, “Canon - ScanGear” (depending on the scanner).

In FineReader, click “Scan” and perform a preview. The result will be a black and white image. Using the mouse, drag the dotted lines, selecting the desired area - this will speed up the digitization process. Next, in the same window, click “Settings” (“Settings”) and set the desired parameters: resolution in dpi, brightness, color mode. The higher the resolution value, the higher the quality. For simple text, 150-300 dpi is quite enough, but for photographs it is advisable to choose more. True, this setting directly affects the scanning speed, so do not forget to set it according to the type of source. Don't forget about the "Save" button.

Now click “Scan”. After passing the scanner carriage, the desired image will appear on the screen. If we are talking about a photo, now select “Save as image” in the menu, indicate the target folder, and enter the file name. If the text was scanned, then you need to click the “Recognize” button. After this, the recognized text will appear on the right side of the screen, which can be saved as a file or sent to Word.
